Shimano takes a large step backwards IMHO

Featured Replies

Just got my BPS Spring fishing Classic flyer.

"Shimano has decided not to support the youth reel trade-in program"  :) :)

I understand the economy and the need to make certain business decisions but...

May not matter to many here but my next reel purchases probably won't be a Shimano. As much as I love the brand, I will look at other manufacturers products

I  agree,,, >:) >:).... Thats just crazy to me  :-? :-?...

I noticed that too, and cause me and my wife were looking at the reel program cause i have several that i could upgrade and i read that to her and she said, thats horrible  :-/ :-/ :-/...

You think they would!!!!

i would imagine this has more to do with uncle johnny than it does the kids.

Just some sour grapes from BPS. Like Cart7t said on the other thread, just because they won't participate in BPS's program, doesn't mean they don't participate in other events that help out the community.

All hail Johnny Morris the Great!

::)

Is Shimano not free to make business decisions as they see fit?

If I was in charge at Shimano, BPS would never sell another one of my reels after BPS inserted that bit of BS in their flyer two years ago, much less after this year.  A simple 'Discounts do not apply to Shimano reels' would have sufficed.

I will still buy Shimano. Hell, if I am near a Bass Pro I will buy from it as well.

Do the math Burley just on reels...

(60 stores +)x( 1 reel sold a day in each store)x364 closed Christmas?

Glad your not a ceo or cfo of any company I have stock in.

Its not really a financial time decision,  I KNOW shimano has not participated in the reel trade program for the last three years I bought a Calcutta 50 and waited for the classic and the same thing about shimano no trade ins that was three years ago(bought it from cabela's)  I don't know why they do this.

Mitsubishi tried that tactic with Best Buy a number of years ago when Best Buy broke a rule about advertising sale prices on Mits products.

They eventually regained their senses a few years later.   :)
