Just getting over the winter thaw here and I have a football head jig on my B/C and on the spinning outfit I have a Strike King Red Eye lipless / rattle trap.

Well after checking what I have tied on now and have been using this year so far:

Chatterbait-1/4 and 3/8 oz, Rat-L-Trap- 1/4 and 1/2 oz, Silver Buddy- 1/4 oz., Plastic Craw-Tx rigged, wacky rigged Trick worm and finesse worm, and a spinnerbait- 1/4 oz.

edited: I forgot to mention another one I have tied on- a suspending   jerkbait.

The ice on my favorite pond just opened up today so I will have a Jig & Craw soaked in the new formula MegaStrike, tied on this weekend. Once it warms up a bit I will add other lures, but for ice out the jig seems to work best for me.

Now if I could just get the ice to go away on the lakes around here I can completely cure my cabin fever. HEHE

I've got some open water.  As it warms up a bit, I'll throwing hair jigs, blade baits, spinnerbaits, suspending jerks, small finesse worms on light ballheads, and spoons.

Let the weight of the bait determine what rod and reel to use.  In a general sense, heavier baits are more suited to baitcasting, while lighter finesse baits go on spinning gear.

I'd start with a lipless and use it as a search bait find some fish then go back and tie on a jig.

Haven't tried them yet but I've heard and read that blade baits can be deadly in cold water. I'd try those too.

the few an shaort times that I have gone out I started out with a spinner bait, then after a while an I am comfortable with the structure underneath the water line I went to a jig with a Rage Tail chunk, or found myself pitching a Rage Tail space monkey. I think the lizard is going in next./

Just cant wait till it warms up an stays warm.

It's the time of year that will confuse a newer bass fisherman. In cold prespawn water, it's either really fast or really slow. A jerkbait, a trap, and a lighter jig (I like a 3/16-5/16oz baby boo jig), as well as a crankbait are pretty standard baits. Fish the jerkbait slow, the trap fast, the jig slow, and alternate with the crankbait. It all makes sense now....right?!
