help buying some new rods and reels

Featured Replies

I'm going to gander mountain this week to buy a new spinning reel and pole mostly used for walleyes. A bait caster and pole that will be used for pitching worms to spinner baits. I have around 200$ to spend.

Like a lot of people on here, I'd rather spend my full gear budget on a single outfit of the highest possible quality.  But...  if you want to best spend around $200 at Gander on a general walleye spinning combo & general bass baitcast combo, I'd go with these two:

I'm not throwing my personal recomendation behind these as the best option for spending $200, but it's the best option I saw within your criteria.

The Gander Mtn. had a Quantum PT Baitcasting combo for $99. As far as a spinning combo for walleye, I'd check out the Pfleuger President combo. Those run about $80, and you'd have $20 left over to spool them.

I would definitely go with the President for spinning.  As for the baitcasting I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the purist....there are better.  The Quantum Code combo is 129...not the best but I really like mine and has done me well.  I don't know what reel is on the Quantum PT combo but it might be good to check out

That combo at Gander is a Accurist PT reel on one of the old Tour (pre PT) rods. If I recall, they are all 7' Medium. Not a bad buy for a hundred bucks

Accurist PT then yes, great for 100....but make sure it's PT and not CX
