i have a musky rod...

Recommended Posts

hey there, i inherited a 7'0" medium action musky rod. the reel on it has 50 pound braid.

just wondering if this rod is to heavy for bass fishing,

if not, any help on baits that work very good with this combo is really appreciated, thanks a lot! :)

You can use it as a swimbait rod.

Musky rods vary quite a bit. There might be a few things you could use it for, but again that depends on how heavy it actually is.

Biggest bass by far I've ever caught was on a 7' Musky rod and 10" power worm.

50lb braid, at least when talking about what everyone here calls braid, it way to weak for musky fishing. That makes me think you are talking about Courtland braid or Dacron.

If that's the case the stuff is to big a diameter for bass fishing.

If they did use 50lb test of the new braids.........I'm amazed.

Even still, if you throw the big heavy hard swimbaits on that lb braid expect to lose some expensive lures.

Even at 80lb Stren Superbraid, and Spiderwire braid, I lost probably a half dozen lures over the course of a season.

A backlash means an automatic loss. Even time when you don't backlash, but the line 'catches' when spooling off, will snap the line. Zero stretch plus heavy lure at mach speed=loss of big $$ lures.
