I am gonna try fishing with a jig this spring. I recently purchased some zoom chunks. How do you hook them? do you feed them onto the jig like you would a grub? or do you just run the hook thru the middle of the chunk? Thanks for all your help.

Yup, just like a grub. It is also a good idea to superglue them up or purchase a jig that has a wire keeper or a screw under the head so you are not always fixing the chunk when it falls down. Usually the little barb thing on the jig doesn't work too well because the plastic tares after a few hooksets and such.

Plus by keeping it up under the brushguard and not down low on the hook you are keeping the jig nice and compact which is usually what you want. Unless you need it big and bulky for deeper water or muddy water.

you can also just hook it thru the middle. you can really hook it however you like. hook it with the claws facing forward and tell us how it works! lol

I rig it like I were to rig a jig. Just makes it look like it is a part of the jig. I think it is more of an eye candy for me rather then the bass. And since I think it looks nice I have confidence in it.

Honestly I do not think it really matters to much. I rig it one way and I still catch fish. Some people rig it through the middle and that works for them.

In my opinion this is just personal preference. Something that works for someone else might not always work for you. So try both ways and just continue rigging it however you feel is right.

I thread the trailer onto the jig hook, I think it gives the jig more balance and keeps it from roling over on it's side.

I pierce the chunk about 3/8" from its front edge with the 'fat' side of the chunk facing downwards.

What I look at when choosing a jig trailer there are 2 things I want to accomplish; over all profile & the rate of fall. My #1 choice is a Gene Larew Hawg Craw which gives a profile that is perfect for coming through grass. During cold water seasons when grass isn't my main cover I'll opt far a plastic chunk. With a chunk I can change the jigs profile by either rigging it like a pork chunk or treading it up the hook. I also like a Zoom Swimming Chuck or Fat Albert Twin Tail during in cold water because they give me a little more action without moving the bait.

I feed my trailers onto the hook. I just have more confidence rigging it this way, I tryed hooking it through the middle but never had much success like that, probably due to much less confidence when rigged that way.

By the way, if you like the Zoom Chunk, try the Yum Chunk, or Netbait Paca Chunk. Gycb Hula Grub works well too  .

Thanks for all the input. Tin2win, do you use regular superglue? if so, how do you remove the chunk when it is torn up or you want to try something different? I know there are alot of different types of trailers out there, what are you guys most successful with?
