what to look for in a flippin/pitchin rod?

Featured Replies

wondering what size rod and what action is recomended for flippin/pitchin? Gonna be on the look out for a new rod soon and wanted to know what works best for this style of fishin.

If you will be using it for both flippin/pitchin the size depends on how tall you are. I am 6' 2" so a 7' 6" rod works well for both techniques for me. You want the strongest rod you can find that is still very sensitive with a semi soft tip to detect strikes. I have tried flippin sticks from Shimano to Daiwa before i finally found the perfect one for me. It is a 7' 6" Powell Max 766H. This thing is an absolute brute yet extremely light and ultra sensitive. At $169.00 with all Fuji components and EXTRA sensitivity, it was perfect for me. BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
