I have been fishing braid for a while now and I notice with my new st croix mojo rod I am able to cast a heck of a lot further. However I notice my casts are stopping short because the braid is so tight or this maybe the digging in that people are talking about. I notice where its stopping short and pull 15yds or so out and real it back in but what is actually causing this.

I am using a pinnacle solene reel with 50# pp. braid.

Get Suffix or the new FireLine Braid and enjoy! They are both a lot limper and smoother than PP and dig WAY less!

it could be the reel, the line or both.

cheap braid isn't very round...some of it can even look like a tape worm which will dig like crazy. quality braid is rounder and far less prone to digging.

where the reel comes in is in how broadly the line guide lays the line down onto the spool. broad angles = less digging. in this regard, there's quite a bit of difference among reels.
