Daiwa's Pluton

Anyone here use it?

Do you think its worth me Ebaying off a Shimano Calcutta 200 GTB and a Shimano Curado 100D + some $$, to get it?

It would be replacing my Calcutta 200GTB as my swimbait reel on a Dobyn's swimbait rod/Snook Rod. Ever since I went to iCast and felt the Pluton's ( ;D) buttery smoothness and tank like craftsmanship Mr. Bait Monkey has been pestering me to get one, but......come on the Calcutta 200GTB isn't all the bad..........is it :)?

I've handled it in stores, but at 12.5oz, I'd never own it. It is a beaut, and feels smooth. That said, I can't help but think (if it's not already been done), you probably would find your Calcutta equally as smooth if you get it properly serviced (Reel Mech can do wonders) and save $$$ in the long run.

father n law has one..heavy tank but its a sweet SMOOOOOOTH reel.i dont need or have a use for one,but he fishes for everything under the sun and works well for his needs,i like it but not enough to buy it,if its something youd use alot then its worth checkin into, dunno about going as far as pawning off your gear for one.find a store near you that has them and go get yer hands on it.then see how you feel, cause its a beast.

that reel is huge and heavy , i was reading the review on tackle tour . why don't you consider a REVO TORO or a CURADO 300E , i just bought a REVO TORO 51 , should be here tues. , i can't wait !!!! but any how , it's your money , those reels are not cheap . i just couldn't see doing 4-5 hundred casts with that big ol' reel (pluton) , that would wear you down  :)

Thanks fellows, the Bait Monkey is mad though.  I will be keeping my Calcutta 200GTB!  I did not think the Pluton was that darn heavy, even after handling it, but I guess the specs say it weighs12.7 ounces!

Just for the record though the Calcutta 200 GTB weighs in at 9.9 ounces, lighter than the Shimano Curado 300E (10.5 oz.) and the Abu Garcia Toro (10.3 oz.).

Now time to take the GTB apart and supertune it  ;D!

I'm not even sure where the Pluton fits into bass fishing.  Maybe as a swimbiat reel for the biggest bass swimbaits.  Otherwifes, it's just overbuilt for bass fishing.

Now, as a dedicated striped bass reel for throwing big plugs, it's just the ticket.

Micro,

Think of a snook as a dock and inlet bound striper.

how much line does that 200gtb hold ?? from just quickly looking at it on tackle warehouse , it seems it only holds roughly about 140-150 yards of 14# . to me that ain't much line when you actually spool it with 20-25 # line , that's why i went ahead and got a REVO TORO ....

Is 2 ounces a big deal on a rig like that?

You might want to look into the td luna, its not as cool looking as the pluton but it is better suited for bass fishing.
