Quantum Reels and Tour KVD rods

Featured Replies

Is it worth it to get the Catalyst PT over the Quantum KVD? My KVD 6.3:1 broke today and I am either going to get another KVD or a Catalyst.

Also what is the most versatile size in the Tour KVD rods? I was thinking the 7'0", but I really want a second opinion.

im not a quantum guy,but for a versatile rod size that will work for just about any application on the water a 7' mh is the way to go.im not sure on the action of those quantum rods but see what feels good to you either the m or the mh 7'.

The Tour KVD rods are crankbait specific rods.  I wouldn't use the 7' M for anything more than medium (< 10 FOW) crankbaits.  I wouldn't use the 7' MH for anything other than deep (> 12 FOW) crankbaits.

Look at the lure weight ratings for the rods and make your decision based on those.

Thanks guys,

But has anybody had any experience with the Catalyst PT and the KVD Reel? I need about 3 reels right now and I would like them to feel about the same. I was going to get 2 more KVD reels in 5.1:1 and 7.0:1, but now that it broke I think it might be worth it to get the Catalyst PT.

I havent used the Catalyst but I do have an Energy Pt on a KVD tour 7 10 and its awesome. Probably the smoothest real that I own. Is a great crankbait combo.  I also have a KVD reel and its good but the energy is in a different class. I would hope the catalyst is just as good.

ive got a kvd and its a good reel but its not a pt. i havent had a single problem with it though cept it overruns sometimes. have no experience with the catalyst however i assume its a repackaged accurist pt. if it is.... then its a great reel.

I noticed that the Catalyst dosnt come in a 5.3:1 ratio, do you think the 6.4:1 would be okay for cranking?

It's okay if you can keep yourself slow.  Personally, I just can't slow down so I went to a 5:1 to compensate.  I know other people who use 7:1's for everything and just really slow down when they crank.

Also, I have the 7'4" rod.  Great for throwing lipless cranks across the state and fishing medium and deep cranks (8+ feet).

I need 3 reels and I dont think I can afford 3 Catalyst PTs so I should probably just get the KVD. And I think the KVD reel comes in a 5.1:1. Anybody have any problems with this reel?
