Skipping/finesse spinning reel ?'s ?'s ?'s

Featured Replies

So Ive been wanting to buy a good spinning rod for skipping docks and finesse fishing.

Line?

I will plan on putting 20 Ib braid/super line on it. I will be using this rod for both skipping docks and my finesse fishing. so is braid a good idea? It will be strong around docks but then again its very visible in the water for finesse fishing.

Reel?

looking for a nice quality reel in my price range shown.

Reel size?

Rod?

I will probably buy a M/H rod. If you think other wise let me know. What kind of rods do you suggest. Rod height?( thinking 6'2)

Price rang around $100-150 bucks not including line just rod and reel set.

Thanks for your time guys. ;)

I have a 6 ft. m/h BPS bionic blade / Shimano Sahara combo for the same pupose you mention. I use 20 lb suffix braid with a flouro leader 100% of the time. 15 lb. leader for skipping docks, 12 lb leader for my finesse fishing. I join my leader with an alberto knot, which is stronger than the polamor knot that I tie to my hook. I have found that I need a breaking point when skipping docks, and thats the reason for the leader. This setup works very well and you can overpower 6lb bass out from under docks with it. By the way, yellow braid is awesome for this setup. I had a hard time seeing the green line.

I use a 6'9" M Kistler spinning rod with a Shimano Saros 2500 spooled with 15lb braid and a 6-8ft. leader of 8lb. flurocarbon. Rod can skip both light and heavier baits with ease and has backbone to pull fish from around dock pillings and brush. Some people like a shorter rod, but I feel that the longer rod gives me more control over the fish and I can still skip a lure easily.
