Anyone using Braid with the Berkley Amp Spinning Rod? Trying to find out if it will effect the guides in any way before switching over to Berkley Fireline.

are the guides stainless????

im not sure of the specs on that rod.

just looked it up, they are stainless guides....

i would be weary with them and braid myself, although i have never tried the two out together....

though, many say that regular aluminum oxide guides will be effected by braid, and i have found this to be bunk!!!!!

i fish regular aluminum oxide guides on many of my poles, and all have braid...... for quite some time, even with long hard runs from SW species.... and no damage in sight!!!

but with SS,

i might be a bit concerned..

Most Berkley and Fenwick rods have guides with stainless inserts. I recently replaced the tip on a Fenwick for someone. It had 9 grooves in it. They use braid alot.

It's not actually the braided line that cuts the guide. The culprit is the dirt and sediment from the water that gets deposited in the pores/weave of the line over time. Dirty mono will do the same thing, just not to the same degree. Braid will NEVER cut ceramic guides, even the cheapest ones.

I'd use the braid for a while and keep on eye on the tip. Once it starts showing signs of wear, have it replaced with a Fuji Alconite. You'll never have any problems after that.

FWIW, when Berkley decided to build a rod specifically for use with braided lines (Lightning Rod Shock), they used aluminum oxide guides instead of the SS304 guides they use on ALL of their other rods. What does that say about the durability of their SS304 guides?

If it is green and black, or a carrot stick look a like it will handle braid. If any rod has bare aluminum guides don't use braid.

question I just picked up a berkley lightning rod and looking at the specs the guides are chrome plated SS. I use 20# pp braid on this setup.

Thanks for the replies guys and I'll try it and see how it works and keep my eye on the tip and see if its shows any signs of grooves.
