Loomis Rod Comparison

Featured Replies

How do the BSR803 and SHR822S compare to each other? Specifically, I am interested in each in GLX. I know one is 6'8" and the other is 6'10" and that the BSR803 has a power rating of 3 and the SHR822S has a power rating of 2, but both are rated for the same weight lures. How does power and the feel of these rods compare?

can someone please help this poor guy?i would but i dont have these rods :'(oh how i wish i did ;D

Can't give you any advice on the 803 but I had a Glx shakey head rod for a few months I liked it but decided that I liked the 852 Glx better so I sold it and got another 852.

First off, they're both great rods.  The SHR 822 GLX is an insane shakey head rod - and really excels at that.  The BSR 803 GLX, even though rated the same lure weight, is much better handling senkos, jigs, t-rigs, tubes, etc. than the SHR in my hands.  That 1 power difference is substantial and you can really feel it - regarding their actions, even though they're both extra fast, the BSR is noticeably faster than the SHR.

Thanks Bronzefly. I have the SJR843 IMX and I find it to be a great all around rod with great sensitivity. However, I am looking for an ultra sensitive rod with a faster tip for my designated soft plastic and jig rod. Sounds like my next rod will have to be a BSR803 GLX (when I can afford it that is).

No problem Craiger12 - you'll definitely be happy with the BSR 803 GLX - it is definitely ultra sensitive and will make a fantastic soft plastics and jig rod for you.  Keep an eye on the flea market and don't be afraid to pick one up used in good shape - it will save you some $$ and is still covered by both the limited lifetime warranty as well as the expeditor service!

That is certainly part of my plan.

Another question. Does the BSR803 have recoil guides? And if so, how do these guides handle braided line? This is the only type of line I use for my soft plastics fishing as I find the sensitivity and hook sets to be far superior to any other type of line.

Yes - the BSR 803 GLX has recoil guides.  Thee recoil guides handle braid perfectly fine.  Some will say that the "noise" bothers them, but I don't sweat it and really enjoy that sweet, sweet sound 8-)
