abu reel question

Featured Replies

I have a question for reel mech. I bought a abu garcia 5600 al baitcaster reel at a garage sale  for 10.00 it is in good shape. What year was this reel made and is this reel a decent reel also can you get upgrade parts for this reel such as drag and bearings ect. Thank you.

Lets see if I remember right.

The A stand for small arbor spool, and the L stands for level wind.

So you have a 5600 small arbor level wind reel... :D

As for the date, what is the number sequence stamped on the bottom of the reel foot..

IMO all Garcia® round reels are decent reels, as for upgrades it will depend on what the drag pad part numbers are from the schematic, most likely there are some bearings for the reel depends on whether or not the reel has bearings now or bushings.....

Thanks for your reply reel mech. I got the schematic for this reel off abus web site it looks like it has all bushings are there any places on the web to buy abu upgrade parts. Thanks

If your looking at brass spool support bushings I would need to have the OD x ID x Thickness measurements.

My Black 5001C from 1985 also had bushings, and I changed them out to ABEC5 3x10x4 mm's.
