How does Loomis species specific compare to GL2/GL3/IMX/GLX

Recommended Posts

How do the species specific rods compare to the regular trigger/spin jig line?

Which do they compare to in weight and sensitivity?

The rod I'm looking at is the BSR 852 and BSR 853 Mossyback Rods.

7-1 M or MH. Not sure which yet.

The Mossyback graphite is a GL3/IMX blend. They are closer to the IMX side in weight and sensitivity, but not quite up to the level of an IMX.

I have a few Loomis rods, 1 GLX dropshot rod and the others are a combination of IMX &  Mossyback, all I can say is that I've been very satisfied with all them. The IMX & Mossyback are very comparable, use the length & action that you feel is best for the application whether it's one or the other, on the other hand the GLX is their top of the line and a step up but you have to be willing to part with the extra coin.

The GL2 doesn't get a lot of love, but all of the Loomis sticks are very good.  My brother owns several GL2's and he swears by them.  In the past, I've recommended Croix' Premiers, Shimano compre's, and similar rods over the GL2, but at this point I'd like to fish a GL2.  The GL2 might only be an IM6 rod, but Loomis's secret is in their resin.
