I need advice on a new spinning rod. I'm looking for a 6'6" for 1/16 to 1/8 oz. shaky heads and light 1/8oz. texas rigs. I usually only carry one spinning rod in the boat so I'm looking for something that would be a compromise for both. I've been looking at a Crucial MH 6'6" fast action and Quantum Superlite MH 6'6". Both are on sale so I was hoping someone had used one of these. Thanks.

I really love the action of the Loomis Shakey head rod.

Nice fast tip, and would be a great rod for other plastic presentations too IMO.

Personally, if you are looking for a rod to handle 1/16 oz to 3/8 oz lures that you speak of... I would opt for a Medium action rod and not a MH.

My son has a 6' 6" Crucial spinning rod that he uses for that exact range of lures, and he loves it. I have 6' 6" St Croix LTB ML that I use for a similar range of lures and it is "perfect".

I would bet that a similar medium action Loomis rod would also be great.

i have to agree with sanother sitebasser, I love the rod, and it can handle any fish

I've been using the Crucial CRS66M for the past couple years for those applications and it's been working great. I don't think you'll get the MH model to load up properly with 1/16 to 3/8 oz lures, which will effect your casting distance.

I've recently switched from the Crucial to a 6'8" M/XF St. Croix Avid (AVS68MXF, I believe) and find that I really prefer the faster tip for weightless plastics. I also find the Avid's handle more comfortable. I don't think there's any difference between the two when it comes to sensitivity, though.

Nay on the Quantum,,Crucial is good,,St Croix Avid also a great choice.

Quantum products get a bad rap around here, but some of their higher-end rods are actually very nice. I have the 6'10" Tour Edition PT Signature Series KVD spinnerbait rod (PTC6106FKV), and it's just fantastic.

They were originally about $200, TW has them on sale for about $140, and Simmons has some on Ebay for about $100 shipped. Well worth the money, especially if you buy it from Simmons.

P.S. My cousin tried give me his Kistler for my Mojo. No deal. Mine is 6'8 ML I used it for shaky head.

I think you'll find very few people who will put the Mojo in the same class as the Crucial. Compre perhaps, but not the Crucial.
