new premier for weightless plastics?

Featured Replies

Has anybody used the new premier for weightless plastics n how good is it?

It depends on which plastics you're talking about. The ideal rod for weightless Trick Worms may not be as well suited to weightless Senkos or weightless Flukes which weigh quite a bit more. A weightless Senko, for example, weighs as much as a typical 7" worm t-rigged with an 1/8 oz. bullet weight.

I'm actually heading to Dick's in a few minutes to compare the 7' ML/F Premier and Triumph, and see which one is better suited to weightless Trick Worms and floating worms. With the Triumph being assembled in the same Mexican plant that builds the Mojo, there should be very little difference in build quality between it and the Mojo/Premier.

just got one the other day have not used it yet but paid 87.00 out the door w/20.00 off cabelas coupon

trying to get another b4 the coupon deal ends.

Hehe...I'll assume you're talking about the Abu Garcia Revo Premier reel :)

I just got a new 2010 Premier for Xmas.  So far I've mostly thrown 1/2 oz lipless cranks with it, but I did also spent some time throwing a weightless fluke.

I'm still playing with the dual braking system, but I gotta say I was rather impressed with how well the new Premier launched the fluke.

I've thrown a weightless fluke quite a bit on my earlier model STXs and they threw it effectively as well.  However, I'd get a few small backlashes here and there.  Knock on wood, but I've yet to throw a single backlash with my new Premier.

I think you'll be pleased ;)

The rod or the reel?

Lol, good question. I have St. Croix on the mind, so I just assumed he meant the Premier rod.  :-[

sorry guys...yeah I meant the new abu garcia revo premier.  I'm debating on getting this reel but wonder if it can cast weightless senkos n flukes...

I got one in earlier this week and took it out yesterday. It had no problems throwing 5" Trick Sticks weightless. It was nice, smooth and the dual breaking works great. As long as it is paired up with the right rod I don't think you would have any problems throwing light lures of any kind.

It will cast weightless lures fine.  I have the S and the STX (last year's) and no problems with either.  If you are new to using a BC, then it may take some getting used to (throwing weightless), but that will be true regardless of reel.

I've been fishing wit the stx for over a year now n I love it. My only gripe is it doen't cast weightless plastics n 1/4 oz t-rig worms n lizards far. Of course I'm using 30lb braid n cast mostly ro ja frogs on that setup. Mayb the line is the issue. Never the less I might end up getting the new revo premier over the core 50mg7. Love the black n red colors on the core.  Maybe I'l just get the new sx..

If your STX isn't throwing 1/4 oz T-rigs well, then you either don't have it set right or the reel needs to be serviced.  You should have no issues with this weight...

Well I can cast 1/4 oz T-rigs and weightless senkos just not as far as my spinning setup.  I wanna launch senkos as far as I can cast my spro frogs if I can on BC gear..
