No. He mentions in Bass Pro's Series DVD (in season 1 or 2??) that he uses 5.4:1 gear ratio crankin' because he tends to want to fish fast and the reel makes him slow down.

Met him at bps grand opening inrossford ohio 2 yrs ago 8-) got there early to shop,walking around with basket ,noticed him walking around with same basket. I ran out to car, got my bass mag i brought for him to autograph, grabbed a couple hats and t shirts from store. I am almost 50 hope i grow up some day : and walked up behind him asked what he could be needing to buy? He laughed walked around the store with me showing me baits , answering my questions ,wife taking pictures. That was 1 of my questions, he uses 5:4 or 5:1. for cranking. He was a very nice guy and genuine. He kept walking with me as i shopped.I guess was star struck, I asked him a few times if i was keeping him from something important? he said no just hung around, no 1 in my book!

i just finnished both of his books, and in them he says that he used 6.3:1 for most application and some of crankbait applications.

you win carrington ;)I know what I use and for what apps and was inquisitive about the gear ratio he used, been fishing as long as kvd and pretty much set in my ways.

haha beav your statement is probable more accurate for what he used today, those books are from i believe 2001 or 2002 so they are a little older.
