Revo Winch Question

Featured Replies

Hey guys, got a silly question...just purchased a Revo Winch...but I'm not sure how to adjust the magnets. In the manual it shows the side plate coming off and also shows a star type pattern of magnets like my old Curado had.  I'm not sure how to remove the side plate, as I can't locate any sort of release mechanism.   Thanks for the help :D

They are not magnets, they are centrifugal brakes.  There is a screw on the reel handle side with an over sized head.  That locks the opposite side plate.  Back it out until it spins freely.  Rotate the side plate clock wise which moves the front of the side plate up.  It will rotate a little less than a quarter turn and release the slide lock inside.  That will expose the brakes.  Mine came with two brakes in and four out from the factory.  Move them out in opposites ! try two out first if you want it to slow the spool and opposite of that to free the spool rotation.  That should do it. DON"T force the side plate.  Great reels.

Thanks a bunch.  Got er figured out now.  Mine came with 4 brakes in and 2 out.  I'll give that a try before I change it. Any idea why they went this route with braking instead of the way the other Revos are set up?

Good !!  I honestly don't.  I have read the SX which I also own and has the magnets only has been " touchy " to get set right for a lot of owners. It's a fool proof way to set spool speed.  It might be a lighter system to keep weight down.

because centrifugal brakes are better than magnets at stopping backlash when you first cast.as the cast goes they back off which is also better for distance.since that reel is for crankbaits which are heavy and usually cast hard a centrifugal brake is far better.
