St croix premier or Dobyns savvy??

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a flipping stix and cannot for the life of me decide on a rod. I've been looking at the dobyns savvy series but have never held one or know anyone that has one. It is in the price range of the 7'6" premier I own a premier and was wondering how it compares? Thanks for any help.

How long has the savvy series been out ?

I have only fished 1 Permier and it was a cranking rod. I have heard the Premiers and Mojos don't balance too well, but that's only what I have heard. The Dobyns Savvy on the other hands were built with the focus of being a very well balanced rod. This causes the rod to feel MUCH lighter.

Balance always helps, but with flipping sticks it's VERY important. Longer rods have a major tendency to be very tip heavy.

  I'd go with the Savvy.

I have a premier for cranking and love it, but I just got my Savvy today and so far it seems pretty amazing. Extremely light and well balanced and looks great. If you can spare the extra money go for the Savvy. Especially since it's only a little bit more I'd say it's worth it but the premier is a good rod too if you can't spare the change.

Thanks guys I think I'm gonna go with the savvy. And I'm gonna pair it with a Revo Stx 7.0:1.
