Rod help

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, bought a Shimano CI4 today and need a rod. Mainly fish for schooling white bass with small jig heads using grubs, also small buzzbaits with 8lb line, any ideas? Don't want to spend a fortune, thanks :D

St. Croix AVS63MXF.

I put a lot of hours of research, sampling, and hands-on into a new spinning rod. This is it. It would work great for your application. Most will suggest something in the 6.5-7.0 ft. range, but this works great for me. I river-fish a lot and if your schooling white bass are headwater fish running up, this is excellent for an easy-wader, easy float-boat rod. Plus it's got the backbone for heavier bass applications but can throw that 1/8 oz white grub cast-after-cast, a slip bobber w/ minnow, etc.

Another "this is what I have, I love it, you will too..." post  ;D

$150 or so, like split handle rods, those vendettas match the CI4 colors. Thinking about getting a medium instead of medium heavy, thoughts?

Medium is a good all around power I used medium for flukes to small cranks to medium swimbaits

As a general rule, Im willing to spend the same amount on a rod as I do the reel.  There are a lot of great rods for $150, but the Shimano Cumara's were simply made to be fished with the Shimano line of reels; especially the Core and CI4.  You have an excellent spinning outfit in the making, my opinion would be to bite the bit and buy a $200 Cumara to match your CI4 in performance and price.  Take your Stradic to a dealer with Cumara spinning rods and youll see what I mean.
