  2. not necessary but you'll be glad once you try one. spend a little bit and get a good one. IMO - dominant hand on the rod is the way to go.
  3. i have ordered 5 reels from them in the past (including Met MGL). gets to my house quicker than TW.
  4. to make it a bit confusing -a JWR rod that has many models in a manufacture's line up (Loomis 852c for example) might have some lighter models meant for light wire plastics that could be a very different rod than the typical "jig and worm" rod from a lineup of technique specific models (St.Croix Mojo Bass Jig N Worm for example). in my mind a jig and worm rod would be a MH-H rod with a good backbone. a complete lineup of jig and worm rods would just mean plastic vs moving bait specific.
  5. 10-4. just wanted to make it clear to OP and anyone that may be looking for a senko rod. i love the 852c for 1/8-3/16 jigs and plastics. 4"-5" senkos, weightless and light t-rig zoom lizards, shakey jig. the NRX spinning version is my favorite spinning rod by far.
  6. so although these are "worms" i think when a manufacturer calls it a "jig and worm" they are referring to heavier hooks and a bit more weight. i'd consider the 852c a "mag finesse" if you will, not what id want when pitching jigs to cover.
  7. All of my reels are Shimano now although I like and have owned plenty of Daiwas. i have been buying the $300 Shimano JDM reels the last few years. Aldebaran, Metanium. At a lower price point, the Curado 70/71 would be my choice. Although not as small as the Aldebaran, it is more comfortable in my hands and holds plenty of line for 99% of my large mouth fishing.
  8. to me a jig and worm rod is sensitive to feel light bites and powerful enough to drive worm and jig hooks home. a med heavy or heavy usually. this rod wouldnt necessarily be ideal for weightless t-rig or wacky but if you can cast it well (senkos are heavy!) knock yourself out. IMO a "jig and worm" rod is not needed to bury the hook with light hooks in open water.
  9. worm weights are cheap and small. no need to simplify there. id have 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2oz with me all the time at a minimum. adjust depending on bait, rod used, depth, wind, cover etc.
  10. you need to get them to upgrade you to the brigadier version. vertec if given the option...
  11. 11.5" pistol (for another 6-10 mos)

never have been and never will. best voice there is, no doubt, but not worth selling my soul.
  13. more important than weight is balance IMO. i have several rods that are heavier than others but feel lighter because of balance. 3 and 4 power NRX vs F5 and F6 2017 Destroyers, for example. listed true weight, balance and tip stiffness would be very helpful. universal standards would be impossible on the latter but it might be helpful when familiar with other models of the same brand...
  14. if price equates to"sensitivity" ill go with an expensive jig/worm and a cheap topwater rod.
  15. i guess that's what i was missing. i didn't think anyone would want to keep a broken rod.
  16. balances well with a light reel, in front of the reel its a 7" rod. has the same crisp feel as the other 2017 Destroyers i own. i like it for 1/2oz walking topwater and jerkbaits of course. i did not like it for lighter walking topwater, i like a little more tip for those. havent fished much else with it. if youve never fished that line you should check out the FMJ and Daemos. they have become 2 of my favorite rods among GLX,NRX,CNQ,Legend Elite and other MB rods. neither would be my first choice for jerkbaits or topwater however. selling a like new oneten soon if anyone is interested. i just dont do those techniques enough to justify the rod. gotta try that javelin!
  17. im not saying you are being argumentative and i hope you dont think i am. just wanted to point out the simple logic. if you break a $300 rod and it doesnt have a replacement plan and you replace it, thats $600 with one rod to show. am i missing something?
  18. loomis stopped doing their replacement plan a few years ago and their prices did not change. i was rather upset having a good collection of glxs (all of which i still own) and still bought a few more because i liked them so much. thankfully the xpeditor service was brought back after a short time. i think its $125 for a glx replacement. loomis isnt going to loose much money, if any, on replacing it. they might lose money if you would have bought that same rod out of pocket again but you might pick up a similar rod from another brand instead.
  19. youve got $400 in 2 $300 rods. if you break a $300 rod and buy another $300 rod you have $600 in and one rod to show for it. anyone know of any others who offer this kind of service other than loomis and st croix?
  20. i now wish none of my rods came with hook keepers. ive only tried the fuji and probably only will as they work perfectly for me. they eliminate a problem i sometime have of line getting caught in a permanent hook keeper as i can close the fuji.
  21. blasphemy! this thread should be locked! seriously though, if you were buying better gear to catch more fish youre going about it the wrong way. sure you will feel more bottom bites and land more fish with a NRX over an Ugly Stick but the majority of the time its going to be skill that lands/hooks the fish. I have too much fun with my gear and my time is too valuable to downgrade.
  22. find a deal on a stradic ci4+, 2500
