I'm looking to get a new deep cranking rod in the next few weeks, I want to for sure get a 7'10 - 8 ft. rod, and I dont want to spend anything too crazy on it, most likely around 250 or under. So far i've come across the Shimano crucial crankin rod which is 7'11" model CRC-C711M, the Shimano cumara reaction series in either the CUC711MH or the CUC711M, and another I was checking out were the Dobyns champion cranking rods in the 804CB model. Is that reaction series cumaras that much better than the crucial line up? Is the extra money even worth the added sensitivity i'd get with the Cumara? Or should I save a little money and settle with the cheaper crucial? Any other recommendations? Apprecaite the help

I've fished the Crucial and Cumara crankbait rods you've mentioned.  The most significant difference for me is that the Cumara is offered in a 711MH version - which I like quite a bit more than the M version for larger deep diving cranks.  The 711M in both Cumara and Crucial can handle some larger deep cranks, no doubt, but just not as well as the MH Cumara.   

The Dobyns 805 is the way to go for sure. Randy McAbee helped design it, and if you know who he is, he's the deep cranking guru around here. It's a pleasure to fish with all day and not tiring like some of these other rods.

I have the crucial. I've not used the others you listed, but I do like the crucial very much. It's paired with a revo winch and I can zing bandit 700's a long, long way.

I also use it for jigging spoons down deep also. It works well for me there too.

I recently purchased the Falcon Cara 7'3" DD22 special. I sent it back due to the reel seat not being aligned. It is currently in the return process.  They received it Wednesday so we'll see meanwhile I used the 6' 10" Lowrider teamed with Revo and it will launch a crankbait but I am not sure about fishing it all day because I'm primarily a junk fisherman these days and always have 4 + rods on deck it seems.

A powell rod would be my first choice.  It is 140.

The Cumara 711 MH or a 710 KVD are the best choices IMO.  The Quantum is a little heavier than the Cumara.  7'6 is as short as I would go.  When it comes to cranking deeper than 10', you're wasting your time if the rod isn't long enough.

I've got the KVD, will have the Cumara by June.

those Dobyns 8' cranking rods are sweet , checked out Randy's at a seminar at a local marine and tackle shop down where i live ( anglers marine in santee ,ca. ) and the rod really felt balanced and like it had good backbone with a good tip . Randy fishes Norman DD22's alot and says these rods really excell at the deeper diving crankbaits .....
