Jig Flippin/Pitchin setup

Featured Replies

I know I wanna try learning to flip a jig in heavy cover this summer.  What do you guys recommend as a setup.

Pretty set on my old proven C3 reels...

so...

Which Rod?

Who has teh best braided line and in what pound test?

Keep in mind I am on a very tight budget.  Usually have less than $150 for rod and reel combined.

Any rod around 7 feet, heavy, fast action will work fine.

Falcon, Bass pro shops, Abu, and many many other manufactures offer quality flipping rods for around 100-150 bucks.

I like Power Pro for braid as do many others on here. For flipping heavy stuff I would not spool with anything less than 50 lb test.

Good Luck ;)

I run a shimano cumara heavy rod fast tip in 7' length with a shimano curado 301E7.  Fast ratio so I can horse the fish out of the thick.  Also use it as my frogging stick.  I'm spooled with 15lb yo-zuri hybrid right now.

well.

right now for my jig/frog rod, i have a daiwa reel i got off ebay for 27 dollars, and an old bps graphite series 7' mh/f rod that you can get brand new for like 50 dollars. i use 40lb. power pro.

it works just fine. of course.... wehn i get the chance ill upgrade the rod. not so much for the specific sensitivity... i think this one is good... but for over all weight and quality.

but for around 100 dollars you can have the same set up with line.
