I want to get a baitcasting setup because now I only have a spinning outfit. At my Local Dicks Sporting goods they have 2 combos That I like:

A quantum Low Pro Baitcasting setup (IDK model)

And A Ugly Stick Low Pro Baitcasting setup. The Ugly stick is more sensitive& the Quantum Is a little stiffer. I'm not sure which one is best. The spinning rod I have now has a similar feel (As in sensitivity) to the Quantum

If you are going to throw crank baits , the ugly rod , if worm fishing , the quantum rod.

are you using sensitivity as a stiffness rating?  I know a few older guys that say the most sensitive rods are the ones with more limber tips that are whippy.

Well, My worm/ jig rod would be my spinning setup, So the baitcaster would be my main hard lure rod. Also Yes I am using sensitivity to judge stiffness.

Oh and they Are both the same price.

Stiffness does not equal sensitivity. I would be willing to bet that the Quantum rod is more sensitive than an Ugly Stick.

I am also looking for a baitcast rod. I just bought a Quantam Code Red reel. All this stiffness and sensitivity talk has me confused. I want to use my setup for flippin and all around bank fishing (heavy grass) from a boat.

this is pretty easy.

if the ugly stick is a cork handled graphite one.... then it is the better rod. the quantum youre talking about is the bottom of the line model and will only be a better rod if the ugly stick is the heavy eva foam grip ones that suck.

however....

if youre talking about getting this in a combo.... i would trust the bottom of the line quantum REEL over anything that shakespear is putting out in the baitcasting catagory.

so thats a tough one.

for dirt cheap... id hunt down either a cork handled uglystick graphite light (about 60 bucks) or a berkley lightening rod (about 50) and then id start searching ebay.

you can get some great prices on reels there.

and you can safely get a 6'6" mh rod and use it for a wide,wide variety of techniques.

what is your budget , maybe you can get some better choices if people know how much you want to spend . i , myself will tell you that you will get ALOT more if you buy quality gear rather than settling for cheap stuff that won't live up to your satifaction and crap out on you just to have you go out and have to buy better gear . check BPS and Cabelas for good combos , they usually offer better stuff than bottom shelf Quantum and Shakespear stuff , just something to think about

you might want to re-think the spinning rod for worm/jig rod , a baitcasting rod (a heavy powered rod, fast or extra-fast action) would be a better choice as you would want alot more backbone than a spinning rod can offer . but if you go with the spinning rod for worms and jigs , make sure you have a med.heavy rod that is pretty stiff so you can pickup line fast on the hook set and be able to move fish out of cover . and use braid ...

The ugly stick has the EVA foam handles, and the quantum has cork. I think quantum is the way to go, but the Diawa Looks nice to...
