Flippin/Pitchin power for rod??

Featured Replies

Next question for ya'll. I'm undecided on the power of rod to get. I'm leaning toward MH, but wonder should I get a H power rod? I fish KY lake most, There is some really thick stuff but mostly I would say I I fish not so heavy cover(compared to some of what I've seen on shows) As for brands, I'm wanting to try a dobyns. I can get a fair deal on one.

I have both, I like both.  If you're fishing jigs up to 1/2oz, I'd think you're fine with MH.  If you're pulling bruisers out of muck and punching mats of vegetation with big jigs, a heavy would be a better rod.

You could have just asked in the same thread you started about Reels.

I know, think before ya ask....

dont forget about the action. If you are going with a MH I would go with an x-fast tip; on the heavy action i would go fast. I just bought a St. Croix legend and I found the MH/fast tip to be al little mushy for my liking to pitch jigs.....the pitching part was fine it was the setting the hook that I did not like. I traded up to the Heavy/fast tip, I like it much better.

get the skeet reese flippin stick. its gotta great action and its not too stout. as far as a pup wood stick get the team all star 7'6" 15 to 30 and its a good big jig rod as well.

if you are gonna go with Dobyns , i would suggest the 805 for a 8' rod or the 766 for a 7'6" rod . both are heavy powered rods with fast actions  :)
