Power worms & salt

Featured Replies

I bought me some 7" dark green original scent Berkley power worms, how Are they,People say they are good. Also do their scent wash off? Also what is salt for, why do they put worms in salt?

Heck yeah they work. My # producing worm by far.

The scent does NOT wash off. I also wait for my worms to dry and then throw them right back in the bag after use. Good as new. Original powerbait is awesome. Now the GULP is another story. Not a fan of that at all.

I like to swim my power worms in ponds or just let the current in the creeks take them down. Great for smallies and largemouth alike.

They put salt IN worms to make it sink and add weight. Also gives it a different action in my opinion. Some say the salt makes fish hold on longer.I am not one to buy into that.

As far as putting salt ON the baits? Pure hogwash! I wish some companies like YUM,which are my favorite, would stop doing that. What is the point??? HMMMM  Gimmick.

Thats why I ask, I bought  YUM MUY GRUB 3" too

I read somewhere that companies put salt on the outside of baits to make it easier to get them into the packaging.

Salt on the outside is a marketing strategy though.

Most of my baits that are salted on the outside have a marking on the package. Saying "Heavily Salted!!!!"

Like it's something new and exciting.  ;D

YEAH,Well after the salt gets in the zipper for the pack its worthless unless you wash it out.Ever had a hang nail or a few scrapes on you fingers and use these baits.OUCH! LOL

Like I said Yum are my favorites, but the salt on the outside is ridiculous.Like the bass care either way,and it washes off the momont it hits the drink anyways.

Gene Larew originated the salt impregnated worms and the reasoning behind adding salt was all blood contains salt thus giving the worm a bloody taste.
