Lobina Rico

Featured Replies

Thinking about trying one. If you've fished some, what's you're favorite color? I doubt it matters that much, but there just so darn purty I can't make up my mind.

Thanks,

Jake

My best RICO by far is just silver with a chart. belly - - - but I think it's action has the most to do with it....it's just killer!

Shoot avid a pm

he wrote a post about them somewhere about fish jumping out of the water and grabbing them on the way down into the water.

Thanks guys.

Anyone else fished it?

Yes, I have.  It's decent popper but IMO no way is it worth anywhere near it's $20 price tag.   I have some BPS XPS poppers that work just as well.  My Storm Chug Bugs work better.

One thing to consider about expensive topwaters - - - when was the last time you lost one?

I've fished my favorite RICO now for about 8 years.....$20?  Heck - that's a steal!!!

How much money do you think the average Senko fisherman goes through in 8 years?   ;)   Hardbaits are a bargain.

Is it still a steal if it costs $20 and it doesn't perform any better than a $5 Storm?  (which I've never lost, either)

I can understand why people pay $$$ for Lucky Craft, since they generally do perform better than average baits.  But in my experience, Ricos don't.  So I don't know what justifies $20.

It's a decent topwater, don't get me wrong.  It would be a good deal at $5.  But $20??

But in my experience, Ricos don't.

In my experience (being the key words here), they do.  Different conditions perhaps?   We all fish different kinds of waters and conditions.

I have some of the XPS Poppers and I don't like them at all - - I even tried shaving the lips and modifying them, and I still can't get them to act anything like my RICO.

I have nothing against inexpensive lures - - the Chug Bug is probably my favorite topwater in life!!

But when conditions work well for the RICO (clear, calm water, and finicky fish) - I'll reach for it every time.   It was $20 well spent for me - I won't say that everyone will find it has the same value for them, so I'm merely offering my opinion based on my personal experience with the lure.

What StringJam said x 2

I believe that the Rico is by far the best popper style topwater in really clear water. I grew up fishing a deep clear lake (6-10ft visability depending on area of lake) and the Rico would demolish any other topwater popping style bait day in and day out. I have proven that to myself way to many times over the last 10 years.

I will lean more towards louder rattling baits when the water clarity deminishes but for clear water its a Rico all the way for me.

My favorite Rico I have put 5 or 6 feathered trebles and painted the mouth atleast half a dozen times.  It isn't the prettiest bait in my box but the most productive
