Braided line too soft and wispy for wind

Featured Replies

We've had a lot of wind this year and I'm finding my braided line is too soft and wispy to fish anything effectively but crankbaits and spinner baits.  Soft plastics, unless they are weighted heavily, rarely make it very deep before the wind catches the line and lifts them like they are water skiing.  Plus I get no feel or visual cue for a bite unless it's a massive one.  Are there any "heavier" or coated braids that behave more like mono in this respect?

what # test are you using?

Hold your rod tip close to or at water level. I fish weightless or very light weighted plastics in windy conditions a lot. When a fish sucks in a plastic worm, you can feel it even with a giant bow in the line in a cross wind, you can see the line jump also. Cast down wind for less line bow. Even if you don't feel or see the take, when your line bow lessens, SET THE HOOK. I use 30# superline.

NO PROBLEM

Even my 55lb braid gets blown around alot. Still, it's worth having it just for the lack of stretch, and strength.. :)
