Choice of line for shakey head?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, broke off four big fish today on shakey heads, i was using 15# braid and it just flat out broke. Was wondering what type and # line everyone uses? thanks

8lb P-Line Fluoro-clear on spinning gear and 12lb XPS Fluorocarbon on casting gear.

15 lb braid shouldn't break.  When it does on the hookset, I suspect the culprit is a snap hookset.  An instantaneous snap on a lure tied with a Palomar knot will break braid up to 20 lb test.  If it breaks during the fight, I suspect the fish ran it across rocks or something sharp.

Same here.  I also use 6/20 and 8/30 Power Pro.

I like 10# BPS flourocarbon.

your best choice would be a good fluorocarbon line . i like to throw bigger worms on a shakey head rig so i can cast them on a baitcaster , so i use 10 lb. flouro . as for the hook set , i use only Owner hooks (Owner ultra head rigs) so i have confidence that when i do a light hook set that i will button the fish , i stay away from hard hook sets , to me , it is not needed ...  ;)

I use the Tru Tungsten shakey heads and a light hook set gets the job done nicely.
