stren magnathin ratings

Featured Replies

i just bought some stren magnathin 10# test fishing line.  i will be using this line on my shallow and deep crankbaits.  i am just wondering how good or bad this line is.

I used to throw the 20# quite a bit with a Rtltrap, the 20# is the same diameter as 14# I think.I never had any problems with it .

ok, thanks for the info, i mainly got it for the deep cranks so i could hopefully get the full depth out of them with a thinner line.

Yeah that 10# Magnathin is the diameter of 6# or so ,for throwing a deep crank I would go with a minimum of 12# and probably 14# would be the best choice.

why would you go to such high test, i though you want the thinnest line that you can get away with and have enough strength to pull the fish up.

You do want the smallest diameter line you can get away with. With regular mono or fluoro the lowest I would go is 10#. The 10# being the same as 6# dosent give you much leeway for abrasion resistance. They used to have a chart showing what diameter each Magnathin line was equal to.
