Wanting a New Dobyns Rod

Featured Replies

most of my rods are JDM Daiwa Steez, Megabass and Evergreen sticks... I got a Dobyns Extreme DX-784-C-ML jig rod and I really like it. I want to get a worm rod to because I have a Alphas R that needs a new stick I have never held or seen any other Dybons then the jig rod I own I only own it because I got it in a trade (I wanted the reel only the guy was selling but he wouldnt break it up so I had to buy the rod to and im glad I did.)

On Dybons rods is Fast taper a true fast taper or slower then lets say what Loomis calls fast? is theres 3 power what Loomis calls a 4 power?

To the guys that own the extreme rods what do you think makes a better T/rig rod? I'm looking at the DX 703C or DX 704C Is the 704 a broom stick? or a true Heavy action rod? would you say the 703 is a ture 3 power rod or softer then most 3 power rods? if the 3 power is like a Loomis 4 power and the 4 power is like a Loomis 5 power then I will go with the 3 power.. Are Dobyns rods rated like Loomis rods? or Croix rods? I would go check them my self but the closest dealer is a LONG drive.. I want another Evergreen Black Raven BUT im thinking about buying one of these instead because I have more Black Ravens then I need and I can buy 2 and a half of these for one B/R lol..

one more thing, the guides on the pitching stick look to be really good high quality guides. has anyone had problems with the Guides on them? I havent Im just asking.

thanks a million for your time Fellas.

The 4 Power Dobyns rods are by no means a broom stick. Although it will be a bit stiffer then the 784 that you have. I have a Dobyns 743 and 744 Extreme and love them both. The 743 I use for lighter baits like senkos and such, and the 744 I use for Texas rig baits and jigs up to 3/4oz. I'd say go with the 4 power rod. I've had a Loomis MBR844C GLX rod, and it was pretty close to the 744 that I have now in stiffness (Although it has been over 2 years since I've touched a loomis).

If you PM me where you're located, I might be able to find someone closer to you that has the rods you are interested in so you can try them out. Just let me know.

How does the Dob's 743 compare to the Helium Ltx MH rod for T-rigs

I've never used a Helium rod unfortunately, so I can't comment on that.

No problem SJB, enjoy the rod and post reviews up once you get it out on the water. They're great rods!
