Narrowed Down the Choices: Shimano Crucial or Powell 765

Featured Replies

So my carrot stix broke (hey carlos welcome to the clubbbb x_X). It was a 7'8" Heavy Power, Fast Action. I bought it as a workhorse to use it for Pitching, Frogs, and Swimbaits.

So, I have decided to go in a new direction. I have narrowed my choices down to a Powell 765 Flipping Stick or a Shimano Crucial Flipping Stick, the 7'6" Fast, Heavy.

I have been reading reviews and they both seem like great rods.

For a Pitching/Frog/Light Swimbait rod, which do you think would be a better choice?

I am leaning a little towards the crucial...

SoFla loves his crucials  :(

I have a Powell 766 that I love.  It is freaking powerful too.  I use mine for Flipping and Pitching and it does both of those things perfectly.  Its also rated up to 2 oz. but I think Powell is underrating it a bit.  It is definitely a workhorse rod.  I am not sure how the 765 would be.

Darn right I do.  I use mine literally every single day and couldn't be happier.  I'll be buying that heavy action one that Tarheelz mentioned before too long. If you want to go another route, supposedly the W&M Skeet flippin rod is fantastic....if you can get beyond that yellow color.

Dobyns Savvy

x2

3x for the Dobyns Savvy. I am a die-hard Cumara man but Sunday I was needing a technique specific rod that none of my Cumaras fell into. I didn't want to drop $240 on a rod I wasn't sure if I would use much so I bought the Dobyns Savvy for $140 (chose it over Crucial)....after about 3 casts I became proud of my new purchase. I will be looking into their high end rods very soon.
