Rapala Knot applications

Recommended Posts

I know a Rapala Knot is supposed to be for Cranks and sub surface lures, allowing the bait to swing freely. A Duo Lock fastener can do the same for those baits.

What about Topwater applications like a Popper. Its suggested to not use any kind of metallic fastener as it will weigh down the nose, thus creating an unnatural effect.

Wonder if a Rapala knot would give a popper a better, more natural look to the fish,or is that a weak link on hooksets and that a regular Palomar would be better. Thoughts on this subject?

I use the rapala knot on almost all my hard baits. I never have had an issue with breakage. I use it on flies too and it really shows it's superiority on light lures like that. The action I get out of flies and nymphs is just awesome. Give it a try, it's a pretty strong knot.

I use Rapala knots with hollowbody frogs, or any bait that has a side to side action.

It is a great knot to tie to any bait that does not have a split ring.

^^

This. :)

Don't go Spook or Sammy fishing without it.

Topwater. Unless I'm throwing a swimbait. I just don't trust it, so I use a snap. When tossing a 5 oz bait, a snap won't change anything.
