I bought some bass magic swimbaits this winter.  Took some new stuff out to test it this past weekend.  The swimbait wouldn't run strait (just rolled over and over all the way back).  I have a weighted 5/0 hook I used for frogs in it.  I'm guessing the weight just wasn't heavy enough.  Does anybody use a swivel on these?

Was the hook centered on the bait and straight?

I got the hook centered and straight.  I'm guessing the weight is just 1/16 ounce though.  I guess my line could have a lot of twist in it too.  Not sure what the problem is yet.

You are correct, there wasnt enough weight. The bigger the bait the more weight it will need. The less weight you use the slower you will have to retreive it to keep it from rolling. The weight needs to be below the bait or at least below the center line. Keep adding weight untill the bait is stabilized.  Also if the bait is crooked, put it in boiling water for a minute or two and that will straighten it which will make it run more true.

It was a 5.5 inch version.  What weight would you recommend for that?

I could not find 3/16 and 1/4 oz weighted hooks for these same swim baits.  I bought some long mojo carolina weights, cut them to the size that works best and inserted them inside the 5.5 bait through the hole in the tail using a little fish formula as lube and scent.  Was able to use a Gamy oversize EWG and so far so good.

I am having the same problem with mine. I cannot get them to run straight. What hook is recommended for this lure?

I would use a 1/4 ounce 5/0 Falcon hook. You can get them at TW. If you dont see it on their site call them. Also you can buy pinch on weights. I beleive they are made by D.O.A. There prety cool . You can use what ever hook you want and add diferent amounts of weights.

With the boom in popularity of these hollow body baits, those weighted 5/0 and 6/0 hooks are hard to find.  TheBeast and I spent almost an hour digging around on TW and Cabelas sites a couple of days ago.  Cabelas had some Mustads in stock I think.
