Just given a spool of braid

Featured Replies

Ordered a reel and it came with a free spool of Berkley Fireline Braid. So now I can try some braid without being out any expense. When I started a thread about this a few weeks ago, the Fireline braid came highly recommended. The only question now is which reel.....Citica 200E, or TrionLP? I've never used braid before so this should be quite interesting. I intend to use it for a jig/T-rig setup on a 6'6" MH Techna AV rod.

I have a citica 200e w/ 50# power pro braid on it.  This year was the 1st year I've used braid.  I'm really liking it and its advantages,  but there is still a place for mono,  co-poly or flo. in my line up.  The first thing you will notice is the lack of stretch.  I'm still trying to condition myself not too rear back really hard when I set the hook.  W/ braid having no stretch your hook set needs to be a lot lighter.  IMO braid is more sensitive than other lines too.  I'm anxious to try samarai braid also.

Oh,  by the way,  I really like the citica.  It is my least expensive reel and i'm very pleased w/ it!  Not much less of a reel than the curado e7.

Yes sir, I have 4 of them. I'm going to remove the line form one and use the braid on it. I've been using YoZuri Ultra Soft for a couple of years now and have had to 'lighten" the hook set while using it. Transitioning to the braid's lack of stretch will not be that hard. The thing that concerns me the most about using braid is the knot strength/slippage.

Use a palomar knot. Strong and very fast to tie.

That's my intentions Dozer, thanks. I've been using the polomar exclusively for many years. I have noticed that the fluro coating on the YoZuri caused a little bit of slipping in the knot when under the pressure of landing a good fish so I started leaving about a 1/2 inch tag, will do the same on the braid. I don't plan on using a leader at this time.

1/2" seems a bit much, but maybe you're fish are bigger than mine  :)

As far as Braid goes, personally I do not like the way fireline behaves on my rods and reels. seems to be less smooth than power pro or suffix braid. But that's just my opinion, whatever works best for you is what you should use.
