I only have a few rods. I use all of them for any type of fishing I do, I don't have specific rods for a certain technique. does anyone know if you need a leader on hi-vis yellow braid when frog fishing?

When I am fishing frogs in cover I always tie braid directly to the frog, and when I am fishing a frog in open water situations I always use mono line.

So to answer your question, no I never use a leader when frog fishing.

   I always use braid, and I always use a black sharpie to mark up the line. Just use a razor blade and cut a small slit in the sharpie then slip the line in and pull through.

With frog fishing you're generally using a fairly heavy gauge hook.  You're using Braid so you can get a very good hookset, even at long distances.  The no stretch quality of braid can make for a bone jarring set.  Besides the brute strength of braid, another benefit is that it will saw through vegetation where other lines would tend to get hung up.  The smaller diameter braids will cut through grass better at the cost of strength.

I've used 40 lb for a while now and never had a problem with it.

Depending on what you are snagged on. If you are trying to rip through vegetation, then braid will excel. When fishing around cover such as wood, this is where braid has some flaws because it doesn't have good abrasion resistance. The best quality of braid, like SoFlaBassAddict mentioned, is no stretch. It is vital when fishing frogs to get a good hookset, and braid is the best line to do that.

When fishing heavy cover with frogs, you don't want to mess around with the fish, instead you want to power them to the boat is quickly as possible, and the following setup is the best to help you do that.

1) 7'6 H rod (Dobyns is my preference)

2) 7:1 reel (Anything Shimano )

3) 50 # + Power Pro braid, depending on the amount of cover.

4) Frog with good hooks (Spro bronzeye or R2S Bully Wa)
