Mojo vs. Veritas

Featured Replies

I've been reading all the posts lately about how great the veritas rods are.  I looked at them a month ago and they seemed alright.  I took another look at them this week and tried to compare them to the st. croix mojo while shopping with my 1 year old, not an easy task.  I must say that I was more impressed than when I first looked at them.  I was looking at the 6'6" MH Veritas spinning rod and the 7' MH Mojo rod and the Veritas was very light and comfortable feeling.  Rod actions seemed similar in both but the Mojo rod blank is much thicker at the base.  I have a Mojo "wacky" spinning rod and really like it but the Veritas may have won me over.  I'm not sure if the Shimano sustain 4000 reel I have will be too heavy for it though?  Also, does the screw and large nut become uncomfortable after fishing with it all day???  Otherwise I think I'm sold on trying one for next year.

I'd get a St.Croix Premier.

I just got my Veritas about a week ago. Its amazing. Literally feels like it weighs about 1g. I haven't used the Mojo so I can not attest to it but the Veritas is amazing. Simply put for the price.

mojos seem to have more backbone mh vs mh and the veritas is deffinatly lighter.

The Veritas should balance better also compared to a Mojo.

I just purchased a 6'6" M spinning veritas and used it for the first time monday. Very light and comfortable to fish with. I did not want to put it down..

Had both and deff. go with the Veritas.  Night and Day comparison. IMHO

Thanks for all the replies.  Now would anybody compare the Veritas to a St. Croix Avid series rod or for almost twice as much is the Avid still a better rod?

Price is no longer a determining factor is rods. The Skeet Reese rods changed the rod market for ever. Just 10 years ago there were few choices for top shelf rods. I fished Loomis GLX rods back then. But what ever one choose to fish it was costly. Now we have a mountain of rods priced under $200 to choose from, with many under $150. Many of those are lighter and more sensitive then those $375 GLX models I fished 10 years ago, and they are noticeable lighter as well.

As for fishing your 4000 series reel, sure it will work. A 2000 or 2500 seems a better match, but if it maintains balance then it really doesnt matter. I did find the Veritas to balance very well.

IMHO yes the Avid is a better rod.  You get a lot of rod for the money with an Avid.  Not to say there is anything wrong with a Veritas, but I don't believe they are on par with an Avid.

The only way you are truly going to find out if the Veritas is as good as the Avid , is to buy them both , all you will get here are some opinions of what some one else likes/dislikes.

Got a Veritas rod for Xmas. Fished all day with it and did not want to put it down. Will buy 4 more,2 spinning and 2 casting. Had I had this rod 20 years ago I could have been a Contender!

the only thing about the veritas is that i think its the ugliest rod ive ever seend. may have to paint it black. i have a mojo now and its not bad. def gonna look into the veritas and see if i can get past that nasty silver spray paint.

i would also hope a 6'6"MH is lighter than a 7'MH i know the mojos are night and day with that half a foot distant. def check out the two at the same specs.  I have heard great things about the veritas so far. could be bang buck rod of the year?

The Veritas is white, not silver.

sorry when i glanced at it looked silver. saw the review with iaconelli. looks like itll be a great rod. wish they had a crankbait version

I hit my local BPS twice this week to handle the Veritas spinning rods, but they just don't do it for me. I wanted to like them, I really did, but the fit/finish wasn't all that great and the grip material felt cheap.

As much as I hate to say it (and you have no idea how much it pains me to admit this), the Carbonlite actually felt better in my hands.  :-[

T-rage, I understand the length difference will offset the weights some and I would have compared the same lengths if they were available at the store, but the mojo only comes in a 7' MH and they didn't have the 7' MH veritas to compare, only the 6'6". Even so, I predict the 7' veritas to still be noticeably lighter and I'd probably get the 6'6" anyway. I dont care for the white rod myself but color never stopped me from buying a rod or reel because the fish dont care.

hey if you like the rod get it and good luck fishing! heard ton of great reviews on it.

i gotta check out this carbonlite rod.

Well I took a more serious look today and compared it to equal sized st. croix premier and avid rods, and again the 7' mojo and decided to buy the veritas.  Thanks for all the advice.  Winter can end now.  Maybe I'll try it ice fishing for panfish to test the sensitivity ;D.

Mix them together and you get a Mojitas, they're delicious...
