Any Experience with Stren 100% Fluoro

Featured Replies

Got a free spool of this line--10# test. I'm not a big fan of fluorocarbon. Tried Seguar Carbon Pro and saw little advantage for my usual type of fishing which is heavy cover and higher pound test mono.

Thinking about spooling the Stren on my baitcasting reels for suspending jerk baits in clear water with minimal cover and for a drop shot rig.

Any one have experience with Stren Fluro in the lighter pound tests?

Thanks

You don't want to fish Fluro.with a topwater bait because Fluoro sinks and will hurt the action of your topwater bait!

I tried stren flouro in 8 pound last year and lost way too many lures on it.  Don't know if it was a quality control issue or what, but I only give things one chance and if I'm not happy, I'll never go back.  Before spooling it, pull on the line with your hands.  I would do this and I could see the line fraying before my eyes...YUCK!!

I thought it compared to Trilene's 100%, which I didn't care for.

I've exstensively used #12 and have a days worth experience w/#6.

12- Very strong, I hooked a 26'' fish in wood cover with the drag really tight (forgot I had it all the way tight) with less than 12' of line out and it held like a champ. I purposely casted into wood about a dozen times and didnt feel any abrasion on the line. Its also quite sensitive as well.

The problem I had was the way it handled. Now for what it's worth the reel it was spooled on is a first gen. revo sx, which isnt the most forgiving brake system in the world. However once its set right I can use any other line with minimal issues. There was alot of memory and the last 3 or 4 wraps on the spool wanted to coil up. This isnt a deal breaker for me as I feel the pros outweigh the cons.

#6 I spooled it on a spinning reel for a trip and havent picked it up since. Despite trying a few diffrent well lubed knots, the knot strength wasnt what I was looking for.

Really????

;)

I don't like Stren Flouro all that much. Especialy on spinning gear. Just doesn't like being on a reel.

Stren Braid is great, but Stren Flouro is a different story

I have been using Stren Fluoro now for about 2 1/2 yrs.  The only thing that I see is that it does have a lot of memory. You have to stretch it out about every other time you fish, but that is true for just about any Fluoro that you use(which I have used them all). I like Stren Fluoro I think it is way better than Trilene's 100% IMO.  I use 12# mostly and have 10# on my spinning reel.

Try using it with a top water lure.

Second this! But only when doing it to keep your bait lower in the water and fishing it fast ;) ;D

Seriously though. You might as well tie on a slinky. I thought it sucked. It was seriously like tying on a slinky. I just can't get my mind around how much memory it had. I think I only left it on for one or two days before I threw it all away and respooled with Vanish. Yes, that's right. Vanish.
