suffix 832 in review

Featured Replies

For christmas, I treated myself to some of the new suffix 832 in 30 lb moss green for my jig rod and frog rod. I took the jig rod out fishing yesterday. ::) Cabin fever is really setting in. I had previously been using the original fused fireline and liked it. I think i will learn to like this more but from first impressions i have found:

Does soak up water(which i thought it wasnt supposed to do)

however it still floats

and i dont understand why but the sensitivity to be as much as i expected(although still rather sensitive)

smooth, round and very abrasion resistant. (i put it through a little testing wet and dry)

overall score from first impressions: 8.5/10

feel free to ask any questions and ill do my best to answer them

Two questions come to mind quickly.  Compared to similarly sized fused Fireline can you compare the stiffness of the 832.

I've read elsewhere that initially the water's surface tension will float the 832 but after the line is submerged it will sink very slowly.  Are you reporting that it doesn't sink after it once gets submerged?

I had been using 20lb. fireline and the is definitely more stiff but my fireline was also broken in so i expect this to break in and lose stiffness. but i dont mind some stiffness as long as the abrasion resistance is better.

And even when it was fairly saturated with water it floated at or near the surface.

steve, over at TT, i meant that 832 sinks only after running my thumbnail over it underwater to get all the air bubbles off it the first time before it will s-l-o-w-l-y sink after breaking the surface tension. in normal casting/fishing, i dunno how that will actually play out but i would not count on it to sink like fluoro does.

mr. mallard, i actually like a little bit of stiffness ("body") in my braid...usually, the limper the line, the more prone it is to wrap around the guides.

Thanks for the clarification, Snoopy2.  I'm thinking of the 832 more as a "neutrally buoyant" line after several of these postings.  Next time by Cabelas I'm coming home with a couple of spools of it... but still won't be able to fish it till late April... Ugh!

no kidding, im waiting for frog weather. this stuff+bronzeyes= the way to spend hot summer days

I was just reading the new B.A.S.S. times and it has a article on sinking braid. Inset on 832, says it was designed with sinking properties in mind. It's main goal was to be castable, abrasion resistant, and manageable.
