Kistler MAGNESIUM VS ARGON

Featured Replies

I'm looking to add an all purpose rod and have read great things about the Mag 6'9" but then I find the 6'9" Argon for $5 bucks cheaper. Tired of driving myself crazy and though I would ask what you folks thought???

I have a couple Argons, they are great rods. The only reason I don't recomend them is that Kistler discontinued the Argon series, so If you need to have one replaced you won't be able to get the same rod.

People bring this up all the time. If the rods handle the duties asked of them, who cares if they can't be replaced by the same make/model? I look at it as a perfect time to try something else should something happen. ;D Admittedly I've never broken a rod yet. (Hope I didn't just jinx myself! >:) )

I care..........because if I become comfortable with a certain rod, and it breaks and I can't get an exact replacement for it, then I have to get a feel of a new different rod, and that matters to me, and it might to the OP as well.

The Argons are Nice rods I have three. But like farmer said there discontiued. I,ve pulled in a 5 pnder with my ML and it had plenty of back bone. There definately a better rod than the Mag. But to each his own...

Or just get the LTA! :)

I appreciate the feedback.  That's a good point on them being discontinued but the only time I've broken a rod was when I rolled the tip of my best spinning rod up in my rear window leaving a local pond.... That wasn't a good day.  I've heard the Argon has much better features (blank, guides) than the Mag but wanted to make sure there were no major issues with it causing Kistler to drop them.  I think I may just take that chance.  By the way, Simmons has them at 60% off right now.  :)

You won't be disappointed!

I bought all my rods from Simmons. That store rocks!! :)

I'm not saying don't get the Argon, they are great rods, and at the prices they are beeing blown out at you can't beat them. I just wanted the OP to know they were discontinued just "in case".  The are going cheap enough now you could buy them 2 at a time if you can afford it and keep one as a back up, which is what I did.
