Burning Crankbaits

I've had quite a bit of luck burning lipless cranks.  But I don't think I've ever seriously tried it with lipped cranks.  Has anyone ever tried this?   If so, was it productive?  Under what circumstances?

i have had alot of luck doing this with a storm subwart baby bass color when the bass are cruising in shallow bays getting ready to spawn. just burn it so you see the wake and the will come up and nail it. make sure there is wood around to that always helps. or over tops of shallow weeds.

Not to brag but , YES!

A DT16 in July,10-12 ft. deep. Reeled em' in almost as fast as we could on a 5:3:1. Crushed em' for awhile in 2006 this way. Never happened in 2007. :-/

Yep, #5 Shad Rap fished along a rip rap bank from shore.  Water was 85+ degrees in mid August.  I had to crank that spinning reel as fast as humanly possible and ram the bait into rocks to get bit, but the bass crushed the bait and I caught a ton of them.

Also, you will find that some cranks do not brun well.  They will roll on their sides or roll over.  Some cranks are made to burn.  The Speed Trap is one of them.

Unfortunately, YES.  I say "unfortunately" because when they get on burned deep divers, it makes for a really good workout.   ;)

I've even caught fish burning deep cranks in early winter (50 degree water).   Sometimes it's just the best way to get bit on them.

I also burn crankbaits. I perfer to burn the cranks over grass in med to deep watcr with cranks such as the dt6 and poe's 4400 compition cedar.

Thanks for the replies.

The only crankbaits that I will burn are lipless cranks, because like Brad said most cranks will roll over when cranked too fast. After hearing about the Shad Raps, I just may try burning some of mine this season.
