Verdict rod for shakey head?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Ben lurking for a while and soaking up the excelent info available on this site!

anyway, thanks to BTD's sale I'm going to pick up a verdict rod for shakey head, which is a technique im looking to use this year for the first time, but im not to sure on which rod length and action to get, since the sale ends soon there isn't much time to ask around, and I didn't find the search function to friendly. Not to many of the guys I fish around use any finnese stuff anyhow, so they wouldn't be much help anyway.

I intend on pairing it with a Garcia Soron stx, and I beleive from what i've read I should grab a STX 20?

so to shortan it for those who hate reading long post:

Which Verdict Rod/Soron STX do i want for Shakey head?

Thanks!

Hey there. I have two Soron stx's for dropshotting and for shaky heads and other heavier finesse techniques.

Depending on what line you are using, you might want to conider stepping up to the 40. Size and weight are a huge factor on my consideration for spinning reels so, I chose to go with the 20 instead of the 40. Overall, I think the 20 is the best size.

As for the rod, you are probably going to need a M or a MH. I would probably go with the Medium seeing how I typically use lighter jig heads anywhere from 1/16-3/16ths. I feel that a Medium rod give me more feel for bait in this weight than say, a MH would.

I was thinking either 6 or 8 lb floro, and starting with 3/16 jig heads

I would go with the Soron STX 20 and either the 6' 9" ML or 7' M rod and use 8lbs fluorocarbon.

That will be a very nice combo for sure.

Later, ;)

Got the 7' M/STX 20 on the way, cant wait to try! Planning on using 8lb fluro as well.
