Swimbaits: Revo S or Revo SX?

Featured Replies

I am a fan of the Revo line.  I have the 2010 SX on a 6'6" M/F Vendetta that I use for cranks, weightless plastics, a Daiwa Exceler HS on my 6'6" MH/XF that I use for throwing worms, jigs, and spinnerbaits. And currently a 2009 SX-HS on a 7'10" MH/F BPS Nitro Big Bass Rod for swimbaits. I want to put the HS Revo SX on my worm rod and  I want to get a slower speed reel for the swimbaits, would you guys suggest either the S or SX, or stick with all SX's and why? Im tossing baits 2oz and under.

Revo Winch or Toro Winch is your best bet in the Abu line.

I have one for my cranking needs... Great reel for larger baits.

between an s and an sx i have to give it to the sx.  i have an s, sx, stx, and a winch.  just bought another sx today.  The sx and winch are my two favorite...

The SX is the one to get, much better then the Revo S and actually for the extra $30 the STX is that much better.

If your gonna throw baits like a 8" punker, which flies pretty far, you want a reel with some line capacity. I like the Curado 301, the winch would be  good choice too.

That was my thinking as well. Not only that but for large baits a slower gear ratio its easier to keep it in the strike zone.

calcutta CTE-300..... oh wait that wasn't an option 8-)

A fast reel will work too, you just have to be aware of how fast you retrieve the bait..Some baits work real well burning them, so a faster reel does have a place for swimbaiting.. 8-)

He was talking about the Revo line not shimano. Revo Toro 50/51 will handle the larger swimbaits and if you wand even more line capacity there is the 60/61 size. They come in two different speeds to match your needs.

Actually, after re-reading his original post, for swimbaits 2 oz and under the SX or STX should work just fine.

Thanks for all the advice, the higher end Abu's are not really in my budget, that is why I was thinking about another SX or S. Based on the responses, I will be picking up another SX. As Hammer4 stated that faster reels do have a place in swimbaiting, I now have another dilemma... Do I pick up another SX-HS or get a regular speed SX?

And I'm looking at the 2009 Revo SX's not the red and black 2010's.

The SX had a pretty big overhaul on the braking system for the 2010 model. I don't have any personal experience with the 09 SX but from reviews I've seen people much prefer the 2010. I believe you can also purchase the new parts from Abu and install them yourself for relatively cheap.
