Punching! Need reply fast please!

Featured Replies

Ok I need a punch rig, I'm buying 65# Power Pro, Td-Tungsten Weights, Paycheck Punch Stops, Paycheck Hooks, Paycheck punch stops, and Paycheck Punch Skirts.

I need to know if I should get insert or insert free weights? And I watched a Bub Tosh video an he said he uses a bobber stop AND the punch stop  So will the Punch Stops be enough or do I need bobber stops too? And is Power Pro braid fine? My dad is gonna order all this pretty soon so I kinda need a fast answer if possible.

Terminal tackle is cheap just buy it and find what works for you.

Also 65# is a good weight. I don't use PP but I know a ton of people who do. If you like PP then I would say go for it as well.

NEVER use inserts! you will be disappointed... not worth losing fish and the weight

What's the difference and how does it affect it? Because Bub Tosh recommends the inserts so the tungsten won't cut the line, so is it a personal preference thing?

I think you may have that backwards. Inserts do tend to cut the line. Removing inserts from a inserted weight may also as the surface finish might not be as smooth as non-insert weights. Non-inserted is the way to go, no risk in fraying the line.

okay, here's the scoop. braid is exceptionally strong but its weakness is abrasion-resistance. high quality tungsten weights like tru-tungsten are finished smooth on the inside and won't cut your braid but is a costly process. some of the cheaper tungsten weights are rough on the inside and will weaken or cut your braid so some manufacturers use an insert instead to protect your line from the rough inside surface of the weight. unfortunately, the sharp edges of some inserts does just as much damage. believe you me, losing a fish plus a $7 weight, a $2 hook and a $2 punch skirt hurts your ego and your wallet each time it happens.

65# power pro is good. bobber stops are cheap so why not. personally, i gave up on punching...not a particularly enjoyable way to fish and too expensive. you might want to give it a try using a 2-3 lead weights and a standard worm hook first to see if you even like fishing this way before spending that kinda money.

Ok I was looking at the Vike Tungsten Flippin' Weight on ***, is this ok? There are good reviews on them. And I already know I like it, I've done it before.

I ordered some of the Vikes and so far I have had no problems with them.

EXACTLY! If it has an insert it WILL cut your line eventually. Also, most inserts suck to begin with so if they crack or break the tungsten beneath it is NOT smooth or coated at all and will slice your line immediately on your next hookset! Ive done alot of research with inserts vs non-inserts and trust me... i will never even look at a tungsten weight that is not smooth finshed/polished and coated. For example tru-tungsten but there are many good ones out there now
