Was wanting to know with all the rain in Texas, have the bass started their transition into the summer pattern, or has the rain delayed the deeper bite.

Catt,

I will be down there later in the month for a week, any suggestions?

Generating Schedule / Lake Level as of 06/05/07 7:00 am

Lake level: 170.88

Generator 1: Currently 7 hrs/2 pm 9 pm

Generator 2: Currently 7 hrs/2 pm 9 pm

Spillway Gates: Currently shut down

Surface Temperatures: 76-79 degrees due to cooler nights and rainy days.

The bass are on summer patterns with a lot of fish Suspended in 12-25' of water but just about any technique is producing. Monday I got 5 very dependable reports at work about using wacky worms & 5 Senkos fished in 10-12' early/late as well a crank baits. Carolina Rigs/Texas Rigs/Jigs and a few on buzz baits at night. I would plan on fishing early/late or at night since the heat and humidity of mid-day is killer as you well know.

I'm trying to put together a trip to meet t bend tex (Larry Gerald) but haven't had any luck due to a death and illness in the family. My kids asked what I wanted for Father's Day and naturally I said a couple of days on the lake since I haven't been since March.

I met Larry and his wife on Fork this year.    Great Texas folks.     I'm hoping to swing 7 days on T bend for the BBS.  Not looking to prefish very much, just some good camp cooking, relax, and then hit it hard for the tourney.    Pre-fished for the Legends on Fork and caught my over the weekend before, seems to be a pattern for me and Big Bass tourneys, so I try not to prefish those as much and just rely on some good ole luck.

If Toledo has been anything like Fork, the Summer deep bite has been spotty.    With the rains moving on, and the heat index up, it won't be much longer till you can start setting the watch for the summer bite.

Only one lake in the area that hasn't reached pool level that I know of, Lake Cooper, the rest got filled up!!!!   ...........Moment of silence to thank God for the precious water we received.

Thanks Catt

Matt what area are you planning on fishing?  :)

Catt,

I would love to find a good campsite with electrical hookups and shade in the Six Mile area or surrounding waters.     Never fished in the southern part of the lake.

Now we're talking, my neck of the woods, it's also where t bend tex (Larry Gerald) place is located.

My I suggest for boat launch, tent camping, RV camping, rooms/cabins

Six Mile Marina: http://www.toledo-bend.net/sixmile Ph (409) 579-9898

Hillside Inn & RV Park: http://www.toledo-bend.com/hillside Ph (409) 579-3422

Twin Oaks RV Park: email address only twinoaks@sabinenet.com Ph (409) 579-3078

Sportsman: great caf é, vaughnkk@jas.net Ph (409) 579-3292

My personal favorite is Vaughn's K & K (Sportsman) because they are located just across the Six Mile Bridge which is where the public boat launch is, their caf é has excellent cooking at reasonable prices, & their rooms though small are only $28.50 a night. Six Mile Marina has just reopened under new management and I've heard nothing but good things about it.

If I could email you I could put you on 2 big bass holes that would probably win just about any tournament. Both spots have produced numerous DD bass and a Bass-N-Bucks stringer of 33.34 lbs.

Tommy,

Will Larry and his wife be around during that time? How far to trailer from six mile to the Indian Mounds launch ramp?

Hope to see you there.   Does K&K have any amenities in the rooms, small refrig?   Hell, for 28.50, you can't beat that.    And I'm thinking of trying to book one today.

PM sent  :)

matt

exactly when do you plan to be at TB?   My plans now are to be there tomorrow pm and leave wednesday pm, and not be back there for about 3-4 weeks due to kids/grandkids coming in, HOWEVER, if the timing is right, we may be able to meet you there for a day or so.  I'm not near the fisherman as catt, but I can tell some tall tales!  and would like to see you again (is your wife coming with you)

I agree with catt on the choice of accommodations.  most of the operators in that area are very nice folks.  there is also a few places on FM3315 that you could try if those he mentioned are not available.

I should arrive Wed evening on the 20th, and will be there until the following Tues the 26th.

No hurry in getting home Sunday, I always make sure I have time to travel home at my pace.     Couple of extra days on the water.

Catt,

Plans are still in the works, My girlfriend and I are still coming in the same day.    My eleven year old daughter may be with us.    My brother and wife may come up just to camp that weekend.

So plans are still in-progress.     Does Hemphill have a Walmart and does it have gas pumps?  May be trailering empty to save the tires and fill up down there.

Will you be free Thursday the 21st?     I do have an anchor with 100ft rope.

Looking forward to wetting a line with you.

Matt

if you come south on us 96, there will be a WM on your right in Center.   Hemphill does have gas and a nice  food store.  other than Center, Jasper is the nearest WM, about 40+ miles from 96 mile bridge.  we prefer to shop the super market in Hemphill- just don't like WM!  we have found prices to be competitive there for both food and gas

Deneice and I can't be there til the nite of the 21st or EARLY 22nd.

we are committed to a seasoned citizen trip with a group from our church and will not be back til somethime the  21st.

I'm sure catt will answer also- we've been at the bend since sunday- caught a few but need a good guide for a day

I'm scheduled off on the 21st & 22nd

Matt have y'all decided on where to stay?

Coming in from your direction you would be better off stopping in Center; Hemphill has Brookshire Brothers with gas pumps.

The only problem I see is that with the Big Bass Splash there will be no less than 1,000 boats on the lake with most being in the Housen'/6-Mile area. My preliminary though was to show Matt a couple spots on the 21st and the show Larry around on the 22nd. Matt the reason I asked if you had an anchor and Q-beam was if you are going to fish these spots you had better be on them before daylight.

Tommy,

How early does one need to be on the water to get the prime spot?

Do you know anything about the Pleasure Bend Camp ground?  We are still planning to trailer.

Matt

  • Super User

Friday June 22nd sun rise will be at 6:12 am, I would plan on being anchored on that spot at 5:30 am, tournament start time is 7:00 am.

I know a certain angler and if he's fishing this tournament he will be on this spot before day light. I'm not one to bad mouth anyone but if you were to be on this spot before him it would I'd be tickled pink; I can promise you on day 2 he'll be there at 5:00 am.

I've never stayed at Pleasure Bend Camp Ground but what I've heard is good, I will more than likely stay at the Sportsman.

monday and tuesday of this week, my wife and I were fishing at 5:10AM!    very few other boats were moving til about 5:30, but next week-end   -  LOOK OUT!

lots of schoolie action at that time of day- we mostly caught 13-1/2" stuff.

As it stands now, we are planning on staying at Lowes Creek.      Most places are booked that have electrical outlets.    As you mentioned, its not far to trailer to Indian Mounds.

So, what time do we hook up for Thursday?     Early morning, possible Wed. nite?     I'm Locked, Cocked, and Ready!!

Matt

Ah yes Lowe's Creek, that's were it all started  :)

I can be there early enough for coffee at the store and then launch at White Oak Creek

Rods have been cleaned, checked all my rod eyes by pulling panty hose thru each eye to check for rough edges.    Reels cleaned, lubed, and respooled.

Changed my oil and gased up the Durango last night.

Last few minor things to load, go over my written list one more time.

All system go.

Leaving out around noon, ETA, Lowes Creek 4 to 4;30.

See you in the morning Catt,

Matt
