hunting big river cats in STL

Featured Replies

Guys,

I need help finding big cats in the rivers surrounding the St. Louis, Missouri area. If anyone know where I can go and catch big cats. I would love to hear your suggestions. My starting point would be at Hwy 270 / Hwy 70. Please give directions as well. All responses are welcome. Thanks.

Welcome to the Ultimate Catfishing Resource Guide!

Make sure you check out all the catfishing articles under the "Fishing Articles" tab at the top of the page!

I love big cat hunting second to bass fishing. However, my experience is only in still waters. But I would imagine, since you are so close to the MO river, you could just put in there, and look for key areas that should hold monsters. Other than that I can't help you with rivers.

easier said than done. Most rivers here are not totally public accessable. Directions to some of the access roads to the riversoff main streets would really help

I would suggest going to the Missouri conservation website to get locations to river access points.

ALL of these rivers are open to the public and have public boat launch ramps.  Misouri fish and Game website shows access points an regulations. My cousins fish for big blues and flatheads on the Missouri, Meramec and Mississippi.  Of course those are all at flood stage now.

Good fishing starts in May.  I highly reccomend a visit to Paul's Bait & Tackle on Chippewa, east of Kingshighway.  They have been there for generations and can steer you right.

Using the internet to find access points is a great way to find them. If you can't find any with Google, then I don't know what to say. Again, I don't fish rivers, so I am limited. But there is a St Charles access off of 2nd street I think. I have been there several times. Very nice faciilities.

Hey, it's just like bass fishing, you're going to have to do your homework in order to have success. Otherwise you will be like most fisherman and have some good days, some ok days but mostly a lot of not so good days. Some peolpe don't mind the bad days, but not me. Good luck to ya :)
