Looking to Book a Mexico Trip
4 of us just returned from Huites. What a blast! We didn't break 10 lbs but caught a lot of nice fish. Stayed at LHL again.

Looking to Book a Mexico Trip
I have been a big fan of Huites since it first opened 12-15 years ago?)and have fished it at least once per year since. I have another report on the forum about it. It has had some slower years but is such a pleasant place to fish that it is always my 1st choice. I have enjoyed the 3 other Mexican lakes I have fished but keep coming back to Huites (pronounced Wheat-tes). Leaving again on 2/11 ;D

Huites & Baccarac
I posted a report in March 08 about a trip to Huites. I thought it was only right to update that report. There is more on that at the end of this report; but 1st a little background information. We had a slight scheduling mix-up on that March 08 trip which was resolved quickly by the lodge staff. It was a minor thing but it did make my buddy nervous. The facility (Lake Huites Lodge) is owned & run by Terry Hollan of Texas and the Salazar Family of Sinaloa, Mexico. They also own and operate Lake Baccarac Lodge. I have been to both lodges and have made at least a dozen trips in as many years, all of which have been excellent. I mean that the fishing, the guides, boats, rooms, beds, food & service have all been outsanding. I have brought clients, friends, my sons and my wife on these trips and always had a blast. It bears noting that we have never had anyone get sick or hassled on these trips. We have traveled by private plane and by commercial airline but have never used the charter service. Other clients we have met at the lodges speak well of the charter service. I liked Baccarac and will probably book more trips there but Huites is so scenic and uncrowded and the fishing so good that I can't resist going back. We just booked another trip to Huites in 09. Cheryl Hollan, who handles the reservations had emailed me not long after our last trip and insisted on providing a substantial discount for our next trip soley because of the scheduling mix-up on our last trip. Every person and every company makes mistakes. How they are handled may be the best measure of the person or company. I am more impressed than ever with this outfit and thier commitment to thier client's satisfaction. I have no interest here except that I am a happy client eager for some more Mexican bass. Attached is a picture of my wife with our guide Manual in Jan 08 at Huites.

Where can I find Diving Rattletraps
I had some rattletraps with a clear plastic diving lip and can't find them anymore. Any ideas on who might still sell them would be welcome. Thanks

Lake Huites Report
Brett, We enjoyed talking to you at the Hermisillo airport and may be contacting you for next years trip. After many years at the same place we are feeling a little taken for granted. We got left at the airport this year because Texas forgot to tell Mexico we were coming. We surprised the local staff when we showed up at the top of the mountain at midnight rattling the gate. But it was all good when we got on the lake;)

hunting big river cats in STL
ALL of these rivers are open to the public and have public boat launch ramps. Misouri fish and Game website shows access points an regulations. My cousins fish for big blues and flatheads on the Missouri, Meramec and Mississippi. Of course those are all at flood stage now. Good fishing starts in May. I highly reccomend a visit to Paul's Bait & Tackle on Chippewa, east of Kingshighway. They have been there for generations and can steer you right.

Lake Huites Report
A buddy and I just returned from Lake Huites having fished 3-12-08 through 3-19-08. When we arrived we were advised that fishing was "slow" and the spawn was just ending. The lake was being pulled down. The 1st morning was indeed slow, by Huites standards, but it bagan to pick-up that afternoon after we adjusted. Topwater bite was good (not excellent) the 1st hour of the day. White flukes with some yellow paint on the tail worked real well after that, with small crankbaits in chrome and white following that. These were all "pound the bank" patterns where you would expect to find fish. As the day heated up we worked deeper water off long points, humps, etc. Deep crankbaits, t-rigged plastic and swimbaits were effective here for mostly nice fish. Topwater again in the evening. Best fish were a 10.2 and an 8 (both on flukes) with a mix of nice "keepers" and small fish. There were plenty of 2 to 3.5 lb fish to provide a good fight and dozens of 5 lb bass were caught. My wife and I fished the same lake the last week of January (prespawn) and found spinnerbaits to be the best bait all day. We stayed at Lake Huites Lodge both times, as we have used them a lot in the past, but we may try Trophy Bass Lodge next year. They are both located near the intersection of the 2 rivers.
