Going to Texas in August....Would like some Info

Featured Replies

I am going to be near Dallas August 25-28 and will be staying at the convention centre on GrapeVine Lake.

Does anyone know this area....I did some research and it is said that is good for Largemouth.

How is the shore fishing there? Is it worth my while to bring any gear and sneak out of my convention a few times to wet a line?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Its always good to go fishing instead of being in a convention!!

I don't know much about Grapevine lake specifically but i can tell you a few things about Texas.

1. If its raining, wait 15 min it will change.

2. If its raining, fish bite really good.

3. It doesn't rain that often.

4. It gets pretty hot here, so the bite is considerably better at dusk and dawn.

5. Texans are proud of our state!! 8-)

Grapevine can be tough on newbies.

Lots of sank brush piles since the lake is older and natural cover has rotted.

When the lake is low and should be at that time of the year, you will have lots of bank fishing available.

  Will send PM.

Hookem

There is a Bass Pro at Grapevine. It is one of the big ones. We have two in DFW and the one in Grapevine is at least twice as big as the one in Garland.

Awesome information......

What will I have to do to get a Non-Resident Fishing License?

Again Thanks

If you go to Bass Pro, just go to customer service desk (its at the front of the store as you walk in). You just need ID. The non resident license is $15 per day or $55 for the annual.

You can also get a license at Wal-Mart's or Academy sports.

Thnx again everyone....

Wonder if I can expense my fishing license?

Also...I will probably just buy a mid range rod n reel there.

If anyone knows of a less fortunate kid who would want it, I could leave it at the desk of the Hotel to be picked up.....

You will also be required to give them your SS#. they use it to make sure someone is paidup on their child support. If you are filed on for nonpay they will not issue the license.

about 60 miles east of dallas is the mecca of texas bass fishing. the infamos Lake,Fork it would be worth your while to find a guide and book a trip. even if you do have to stay an extra day. the current state record was cuaght there ane 70% of the top 50 bass in texas were hooked in lake fork. by the way the state record is somthing like 18.81 lbs i think

Keep in touch as your date gets closer.   We'll see what my schedule is like, and maybe I can be your guide on Fork for a day on me of course.
