Newton Lake Illinois

Featured Replies

Planning a winter get away to Newton Lake, Illinois. I have never been there and I'm looking for some basic information. Any help would be appreciated.

1. Which arm of the lake is the warm water side? (power plant lake)

2. What kind of water temps can you expect this time of year?

3. There is a 25HP limit, can you get on fish with just having a trolling motor?

Thanks,

Darrin

I went to Newton Lake December 27th . The water temp was mid to upper 50's .The warm water is on the west arm. The water temp was 55 at the ramp. I used my trolling motor the whole day. The lake runs more  North and South so the wind could be a problem for smaller trolling motors. The boat ramp is on the Southwest side close to the dam. This is a spectacular lake for large mouth i'm going back this Saturday FEB. 7TH . I was told by the locals to find the shad and you will find the fish. My last trip was a wash though. We had a 3 inch rain 2 days before so the lake was extremely muddy. Hope to do better this time. Will post update Sunday or Monday.

Thanks for the info Mike! I really appreciate it.

We are watching the weather and are packed and ready to hook up the boat at a moments notice! :)
