Lake of the Ozarks

Featured Replies

I am fishing a bfl there at the end of the month, so I was wondering what I need to be prepared for what kind of setups and lures to expect and how deep.  Any help will be appreciated.  This ill be my first "clear" water tournament, it seemed that last year every lake I fished looked like chocolate milk.  Plus I live in kansas there isn't anything clear around here

It will obviously depend on your boater, but do not make the mistake of using too heavy of line.  6 to 10#  I would have a small crankbait, blue/chart., blk/chrome, blue/chrome, a bitsy jig in pbj, rogue or pointer with red/chrome/yellow, blue senko, and blk n blue, either swim senko, baby brush hog or salt craw.  Good luck and have fun. :)

They are pulling water pretty hard out of the lake right now.  if they keep it up you better know where some docks are in deeper water with brushpiles in front of them. The ones behind the dock cables are out of the water right now.  Also try where the bluffs go to chuck rock entering coves.

thanks for all the info,  I think im going to run about 50 yards of flouro on top of some backing.  Dumping water huh?  They are probably prepping for what happened last year when everything in the midwest was 10 to 30 foot above flood plane.  I saw pics of table rock last year... and ya I cant blame them.  Hopefully I draw a good boater so I can cash in the check to pay for the rest of the season.  thanks ooo and if anyone else has some advice let me hear it I need all the help I can get

Not much too add from what's already been said.  I did read today that Ameren plans on dropping the lake to 653 (normal pool is 660).  They've dropped it 18" already in February.

The North Shore/Gravois area is pretty clear right now I've been told.  You can see 6-7' into the water.  Last year there wasn't hardly a clean spot on the lake all spring (and really most of the year).

As you start getting back up above the Glaize Arm into the 30MM and above the water will start to dirty up.

Crankbaits on the dark chunk rock are always popular, jerkbaits on points and around brush, small finesse jigs - those are the dominant lures this time of year.  Everyone throws them.  A lot of people fish with 8-10# line this time of year.
